Dido Valley Road closure due to infrastructure upgrade
12 April 2022
The City of Cape Town would like to inform residents in Glencairn and surrounding areas that Dido Valley Road will be closed from today,12 April 2022 until Monday,16 May 2022. This is due to construction work along the road.
This is not a City project and is managed by GLC Civils (Pty) Ltd.
The developer will be upgrading the local infrastructure to accommodate the planned Harbour Bay Village development in Simon’s Town.
Commuters are advised to please make use of alternative routes via Glen and Da Gama Roads over the next few weeks.
The project will entail the installation of a stormwater pipe along this road in order to divert the stormwater from the stream at the Penguin and Dido Valley Roads intersection down to an existing stormwater canal.
The closure was necessary due to the size of the pipe as more than half of the road width will be excavated to install the pipe. Unfortunately the pipe could not be positioned in the road verge as the existing landfill site could not be disturbed.
‘The City apologises for this inconvenience. Residents are kindly requested to please be patient while the work is under way. This infrastructure upgrade will benefit the area and assist in accommodating the planned future development,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
